In partnership with the ACT History Teachers Association (HTA), the National Museum of Australia invites you to our first professional learning program for 2025.
In this program, you will discover more about the exciting work of archaeologists and curators who preserve and interpret the archaeological evidence from Pompeii, as well as practical strategies for engaging students with the history of this ancient city in meaningful ways.
Join us for refreshments in the Gandel Atrium before hearing from experts including:
- Dr Lily Withycombe, Curator, National Museum of Australia
- Dr Sophie Hay, Press and Communications Officer and archaeologist, Parco Archeologico di Pompei (recorded interview)
- Rebecca Gill, President of the ACT HTA
- Jessica Duffey, Assistant Manager, Education, National Museum of Australia
Cap off the evening with a private viewing of the exhibition.
Professional learning outcomes
- Develop knowledge and understanding of daily life in ancient Pompeii
- Learn more about the eruption that both destroyed and preserved the city
- Discover the history of archaeology in Pompeii and the significance of the recent excavations in Regio V
- Explore teaching strategies to develop students’ understanding of Pompeii as a subject and an archaeological site of ongoing relevance
