See skate stunts, shoot some hoops or bust a move with the breakdance crew before hitting the pop-up arcade. Chill in the games lounge, catch a lightning talk by a play professional or scrawl on the wall in a graffiti workshop.

Before the night ends Tigerlily, Australia’s number one female DJ, will pump up the jam for an electric dance party you won’t forget.

Challenge your friends to air hockey, Atari Pong or Dance Dance Revolution in the pop-up arcade, kick back in the games lounge where you can play with your mates or join an open table challenge.

Breakthrough sports

Try your hand at some of the sports featured in the exhibition Riding the Olympic Wave: Breakthrough Sports. Check out our temporary skate park, watch BMX stunt demonstrations or test your balance on a mechanical surfboard.

Street art

Get creative! Put your artwork on the wall in a graffiti workshop with Sion from Kraken Kreative. Design your own surfboard keyring or turn street art into body art with body paint and glitter tattoos.

Demonstrations and workshops

From skate stunts to breaking, acrobatics to dance-offs there’s sure to be something to get you ready to bust a move and try something new.

About the event

Is the event adults only?

Yes, Night at the Museum is targeted at an adult audience. Elements of the program are not suitable for under 18s.

What time do doors open?

Doors open at 6.30pm.

Is the venue accessible?

Yes, we endeavour to make all of our events as accessible as possible. See more on accessibility at the Museum.

Will food and drink be available?

Yes, the Museum Cafe will be offering a custom menu on the night.

Can I BYO alcohol?

No, you cannot BYO alcohol. Our onsite caterer will have a selection of beer, cider, wine and non-alcoholic drinks available for purchase on the night.

Tickets

Can I buy tickets at the door?

Yes, tickets will be available at the door, however we recommend booking in advance as numbers are limited.

What concession cards do you accept?

The National Museum accepts all state and federal concession cards, current student cards and companion cards.

From Spice Girls to Ginuwine, Subsdance have created the most epic playlist from the 90s for a fresh and fly dance performance. Enjoy the moves, then unleash your inner 90s pop star in a fun and funky workshop.

Breaking with Project Beats

8.50–9.05pm – Main Stage, Gandel Atrium

Street styles studio Project Beats will be showing off some of their breaking moves with their crew, so get ready to bust a move with some top rocks, fast footwork, freezes and power moves.

Museums & Monsters – live RPG

7–9pm – Visions Theatre

Curious about RPGs (role-playing games)? The Carnelian Cache, a treasure trove of artistry and alchemy, awaits its first intrepid explorers! Watch the story unfold or step into the action on an unforgettable adventure led by our expert gamemasters.

Graffiti wall

DIY body art

Turn street art into body art with glitter tattoos and fluorescent body paint. All glitter is non-toxic, biodegradable and made from eucalyptus cellulose.

Miniature surfboards

Love tiny things? Rather draw than hang ten? Let your creativity go wild designing your own miniature surfboard!

Skate park

See skate stunts in the pop-up skate park featuring ramps and rails by Rock‘n’Rollo. Canberra Skateboarding will be on site with some extra decks for anyone who wants to grind!

Basketball

6–7.30pm – Main Entry

Dribble and shoot against your mates or, for the truly competitive, try your skills against players from the NBA Global Academy and the Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence.

Come and try aerial sling

Get off the ground with Aerial Sports Canberra, Canberra’s own training facility for aerial acrobatics and circus arts.

Mechanical surfboard
