Songlines from Australia's First Peoples in a spectacular immersive experience

Connection was on show in a world premiere at the National Museum of Australia in Canberra from 8 June to 9 October 2022.

Grande Experiences, creators and producers of the most visited multi-sensory exhibition in the world, Van Gogh Alive, developed Connection to celebrate the spirit of Indigenous Australia.

Digital render of three people interacting with an exhibition space, which features multiple digital screens on the walls and floor.

Connection used cutting-edge visual, audio and aroma technologies to transform original artworks from First Nations artists – including Emily Kame Kngwarreye, Albert Namatjira, Tommy Watson, Gabriella Possum Nungurrayi, Anna Pitjara and Lin Onus – into a powerfully rich and interactive celebration of Country, culture and community.

The artistic line-up showcased work from emerging and established artists, mainly from remote regions. It featured a magnificent soundtrack by Indigenous musicians including William Barton, Yothu Yindi, Gurrumul, Emily Wurramara and Archie Roach.

The curators of Connection endeavoured to feature works by artists from across Australia with a focus on nine key regions that included rural and remote communities and artists living in urban centres.
