In Meet the People students are introduced to the life of some fascinating Australians through key objects. Students then explore the Museum’s galleries to find more examples of Australian stories.
Aims
- Introduce students to some significant people in Australia’s history.
- Provide students with a brief overview of the Museum’s galleries by introducing them to the Museum’s main themes and the link between objects, personal stories and active citizenship.
Structure
- Introductory activity – students are introduced to the connection between the Museum’s objects and personal stories through a short interpretive presentation about some significant Australians. The education officer will also give a brief orientation to the Museum’s galleries and other available activities.
- Gallery activity – working in groups, students then go into the Museum’s galleries under adult supervision to explore the Museum further and look for additional examples of people who have made a contribution to Australia. The school’s own staff supervise the tour of the galleries.
