Explore our free online learning resources on Lake Mungo in New South Wales, 45,000 years ago. Some of the earliest evidence for people occupying the Australian continent comes from this region. This includes human remains buried as part of mortuary ritual practices, extensive sets of early human footprints, and fossils from now extinct megafauna. The eroding dunes on the now dry lake’s edge reveal a picture of an ever-changing landscape.

These resources were inspired by Kspace, an interactive adventure game for children at the National Museum of Australia from 2015 to 2023.
