In 1915 Thomas Dick wrote an article based on experiments he undertook to chart the spawning of oysters at different periods throughout the 1914‑15 season, and referencing studies from earlier years. The article was published in the appendix of the 1915 annual Report on the Fisheries of New South Wales. In the same volume, mention is made by a Fisheries Department official of another of Dick’s experiments, conducted on behalf of the South African Government, to test whether live oysters could be transported over vast distances.
