A servant’s cottage

Archaeologists also excavated the remains of a servant’s cottage near the stables. They wanted to explore the living conditions of the estate’s domestic staff — which would have typically comprised a butler, footmen, maids and stablehands. Of the ceramics found across the estate, those at the cottage were almost all from Archibald Innes’s time, while those in Lake Innes House were from a later period. This would suggest that the cottage may only have been occupied while Archibald Innes was living at the estate.
