National Museum statement
The National Museum congratulates Council member Stephen Byron on being awarded an Order of Australia for his significant service to the aviation infrastructure sector, and to tourism.
Mr Byron has received a Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia.
The Chief Executive Officer of Canberra Airport, Mr Byron has been a member of the Museum’s Council since 5 May 2019.
National Museum Director Dr Mathew Trinca AM said the award is well-deserved.
'We’re so delighted that Stephen Byron has received an Australia Day honour for his great work advocating for aviation, tourism and social interests in Canberra and across the nation,' said Dr Trinca.
Mr Byron grew up in Canberra and was educated at Canberra Grammar School and the Australian National University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and a Bachelor of Commerce.
Alongside his membership of the National Museum of Australia’s Council, he is Chair of the Canberra Grammar Board, a member of the Board of Governors for the ANU Endowment of Excellence, and a member of the Canberra Convention Bureau.
Mr Byron is also a director of The Snow Foundation, a family foundation established in 1991.
