Sixty people who lobbied for change for Aboriginal people leading up to the 1967 Referendum will reflect on this significant time in the nation's history in a forum at the National Museum of Australia this Saturday, 26 May.
On the eve of the 40th anniversary of this landmark referendum, the lobbyists will revisit some of the attitudes and influences in Stories from the 1967 Referendum. This free event is being held to mark National Reconciliation Week.
Reconciliation Australia Chair Dr Jackie Huggins AM and Professor Peter Read, from the Australian National University, will lead the discussion following a screening of the film Vote 'Yes' for Aborigines.

Stories from the 1967 Referendum is a collaboration between Reconciliation Australia and the National Museum of Australia.
The National Museum has also launched '67 Referendum: Spin, myths and meanings, a display which commemorates the 40th anniversary and sets the record straight on the facts and myths about the referendum. It also remembers some of the activists involved in achieving these significant changes. The exhibition is on show in the First Australians Gallery until 31 January, 2008.
