Seven of the talented artisans featured in the new Rare Trades exhibition are demonstrating in the flesh at a special National Museum of Australia Fair Day this Sunday, 6 July.
This free day of artistry, mastery and fun includes a packed program of performance, talks and demonstrations.
'This is Canberra's chance to meet the talented people whose work has been attracting so much interest since Rare Trades opened last month,' said National Museum of Australia Director Dawn Casey.

The program includes:
- Rare Trades tinsmith John Yard creating an oil can from scratch, wigmaker Annette Miles making a theatrical wig, and sailmaker Rick Mitchell using age-old sewing and cutting techniques.
- Five farriers working continuously on two forges to shoe a horse in a blacksmithing shop by Lake Burley Griffin; plus free horse carriage rides.
- Children's performances by Circus Solarus clowns and stilt-walkers, and activities including wiggly wig making and horse shoe throwing.
- Rare Tunes by local performers A Bunch of Posers; and the String Suite quartet.
- Demonstrations by the Rare Trades milliner, stone tool maker, coachbuilder and scrolling painter, along with a local violin maker and paper maker.
Rare Trades Fair Day activities are free. The Rare Trades exhibition is open from 9am to 5pm daily, until 12 October. Entry: $8 adults, $6 concession, $6 children, $16 family. Inquiries: 02 6208 5021.
