Note: all Museum staff and volunteers are required to complete a ‘consent to obtain personal information form’ for the basis of conducting police record checks.

Privacy: We take your privacy very seriously. The personal information the Museum collects and holds about you will be used for the purposes of administering your volunteering role at the Museum. We will not disclose your personal information to anyone outside of the Museum unless you consent or we are required or authorised by law (including the Privacy Act 1988) to do so.

The Museum’s privacy policy explains how we deal with personnel records, including volunteer records. It also outlines how you may access or seek correction of your personal information and how we will deal with privacy complaints. Volunteer activities

  • Behind the scenes: assisting with research, cataloguing, maintenance and program development. These placements are popular and longer waiting periods may apply.
  • Education: helping to deliver education programs to groups of students from 5 to 18 years of age
  • Paddle Steamer Enterprise: one of the world’s oldest working paddle steamers, the Enterprise is run by a volunteer crew who share the vessel’s history at open inspections on weekends from September to May.
  • Public programs: helping with school holiday activities, performances, workshops and exhibitions
