Here’s a heads up! On Thursday 17th March we’ve got a special evening viewing for educators of our latest temporary exhibition ‘Not just Ned: a true history of the Irish in Australia’. The exhibition opens on 17 March 2011 and runs until 31 July 2011 and entry is $10 (Adult) $5 (Child).
To celebrate St Patrick’s day, we are getting together between 4.30 pm and 6. 30 pm on 17th March to have something to eat and drink, hear from the curator Richard Reid and to explore the exhibition. This event is free!
Who knows, you might like to hang around afterwards and continue celebrating St Patrick’s day with the brilliantly talented, effortless and exuberant Alan Kelly Quartet. Direct from Ireland, this band rips into contemporary, traditional and original Irish music on accordion, fiddle, flute and guitar. Pure genius and a joy! A cash bar will be provided. The Alan Kelly Quartet will be performing in the Main Hall at the Museum from 7 pm- 8.30 pm.
Did I mention both these St Patrick’s Day events are free? Bookings are essential (02) 6208 5021 or email bookings@nma.gov.au
If you’re planning on visiting the exhibition with your students you can, as usual, come along and do your own thing with your students (ie not do one of our facilitated programs and just pay the exhibition entry fee). You might, however, like to book into one of the programs we’ve developed to help students explore the exhibition. Jess has blogged about these.
Hoping to see lots of educators on 17 March for a joyous and interesting celebration of another aspect of Australia’s multicultural makeup.
